The Eliminator is in need of a lot more songs from South America. And La Muchacha is a pretty interesting edgy artist from Colombia. Her song Don’t Touch Me Wrong, released in 2020, got my attention last year and I can’t quite get this song out of my head. The opponent? A true oldie – My Sweet Lord by George Harrison, from 1970. A fifty year difference!
Here are the two youtubes:
Analysis: I’m afraid the Eliminator is getting a little repetitive, because My Sweet Lord really has no chance at all against one of my favorite songs to listen to these days. I promise, the Eliminator won’t become entirely about new songs taking over from old ones.
My Sweet Lord, by the least famous Beatle, is one of those all time classics. It was nominated for a Grammy, it hit #1 in almost every country tracking these things at the time, and just totally dominates. That “Hare Krishna” background vocal just sticks with ya, and the lead vocals are pure 1970s. Everyone knows this song. But let’s face it. This is ancient history as far as the Eliminator is concerned, and those lyrics would never make it in today’s world as cultural appropriation and the like.
This song Don’t Touch me Wrong, on the other hand, is just so so great and fun to listen to. The video also is great. The whole thing just smacks of authenticity and high levels of interesting musicality. I love it. This song is what the Eliminator was created for. I don’t know much about her, except her name is Isabel Ramirez. This is pure South American folk rock and it is the absolute best.
Don’t Touch Me Wrong is going in at #292. George Harrison ran into an Eliminator buzzsaw with this song, and he’s going home with his all-time classic song!
Romeo and Juliet – Dire Straits
Lovely Day – Bill Withers.
Also check out Milton Nascimento
Lovely Day is in the top 1000 at #604! Great song!
Any particular song by Milton Nascimento that you just love? He’s definitely VERY old for the Eliminator.
