Next up in the Eliminator is the 2012 release by the symbol named band Δ (alt-J), Ms. And it’s weighted random opponent is the all time classic by The Animals, Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood, which is currently at #925 in the Eliminator.
Here are the two YouTubes:
But this song Ms by alt-J, or Δ, has been in my listening loop for a while, and it really is a good modern song out of the UK. It’s just a pretty vocal. It wasn’t one of the big songs even on their own album, but it got my attention. I particularly like it about a 1:20 in when it gets rolling. The first minute of the song for me is kind of a throwaway. And that is this song’s downfall.
To make it into the Eliminator 1000 songs, you do have to take out a very good song that people listen to and has modern relevance. And Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood, despite being from 1964, is one of those rare songs that has really stood the test of time. I’m going to move it up in my rankings when I do my coming rankings update.
Ms just isn’t at the quality that we need these days to be in this list. It’s a perfectly OK song with some really good components, and it is a pretty listen. But not in this list. Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood survives.
