Analysis: Sometimes you get turned on to a song that really never made it, anywhere, and you have no idea where it came from. That’s the case for me and this song Boyhood. I don’t think it relates to the much more famous movie called Boyhood at all, and really I don’t know where I found it. Here’s a good background link on the band and the song, which is fun. What I do know is that it’s in my regular listens all the time and just one of those songs that just fits with the overall melancholy that is a large part of the Eliminator 1000.
And what a pretty song it is. The high register vocals with the background chord progression piano for me is always a killer. Combine it with some really laid back guitar overlays and you have a song practically made for the Eliminator 1000. Once the lead guitar starts playing that dissonance becomes haunting. Yep, I like this song.
In solid contrast to Gus and Jim, I think EVERYONE has heard The Sign and Ace of Base. What a fun early 1990s tune. I didn’t know they were Swedish, but it comes as absolutely no surprise to me that I really like another Nordic band, a lot. Poppy, dancy early 1990s! What’s not to like? It was obviously a chart topper. But I don’t think there’s a lot more interesting or new to say about this song, almost 30 years later. Ace of Base was basically a one hit wonder and faded quickly after this song. I’m always amazed by the rapid fade of one hit wonders, but it can happen to anyone I think. A LOT of super famous singers today call Ace of Base an influence (Katy Perry and Lady Gaga, for two).
So which song does the modern listener of today need or want to listen to more? I’d have to say this tiny pretty song Boyhood.
Boyhood goes in at #287 (2,937 more listens). I can literally listen to this song over and over again, and you should to. Ace of Base, and their super famous song are Eliminated.
