Analysis: Tubthumping is one of those songs that really should be played in every sports stadium on the planet, over and over again, and it probably has been, but it really hasn’t had any staying power there. I don’t know how you categorize this song really, other than its, uh, an English pub party song? I don’t know. But it is fun. I really don’t have anything else to say about it, and I don’t think anyone SHOULD have anything to say about it. It’s just a good time.
Chris Stapleton is a part of the good part of recent country music revolution, as far as I’m concerned. Country Music for a long time has tried to be the modern Southern Rock, with buckteeth and alcohol lyrics. And I’m sure Stapleton has participated in that, though I don’t know. But where country music is really coming along as far as The Eliminator is concerned is in the area of singer songwriter / folk merger. This song I Was Wrong is on an album that was absolutely huge in 2017, with several megahits that were released. This particular song was not one of the larger hits on the album, but I think it’s easily worth many, many listens. It brings a serious bluesy country rock to The Eliminator in a singer songwriter kind of way, and Stapleton clearly has serious pipes.
This is a pretty tough battle then, and so I think what I will do is think what I would want to listen to today if I was sitting in an English pub today, and I think I have to go with Chris Stapleton. Tubthumping is the kind of song that really should be on several all time lists as the best song of its type. But on this project with what you should listen to more, I’m going with I was Wrong.
I Was Wrong goes in at #599 (1,953 more listens). There is no change that today’s southern rock/alcohol country music takes over The Eliminator 1000, but on the singer songwriter front it will make inroads. Chris Stapleton’s voice and vibe is so strong that he will probably have other songs making this particular list over time.
