Analysis: I went through a kind of downtempo electronica phase for about ten years in the early 2000s. Could not stop listening to bands like Air. And still, to this day, I have this quirky preference for this kind of music. So the Eliminator 1000 is peppered with songs like this one. I just think this kind of mellow electronica is really beautiful. But as I say with so many of these challenged songs, this phase I went through is now 20 years ago, and for this project Universal Traveler is one of the songs I’m most “tired of”, meaning its very worn out for me.
Joy Crookes, on the other hand, has my full current attention. She pops up on all kinds of different music feeds I pay attention to, and so she must be in all my algorithms and feedback loops. She caught my attention on the YouTube music platform channel COLORS which is great! There is a great article on her and this song here. She’s half Bangladeshi, half Irish, which sounds about right for South London. For me, Joy Crookes is the kind of representative artist for future fusion we are going to see revitalizing old music and traditions, and maybe inventing a bunch of radically different ones. Perfect for this this project. Joy Crookes is a vocalist who I would love to hear sing anything, though she does go for that pop twang sometimes and doesn’t need to.
19th Floor goes in at #233 (3,088 more listens). I really can’t get the song out of my head for days each time I listen to this song. Great Stuff. As for Universal Traveler and Air, they would have been one of my discovery artists in 2002 or something. It’s just time to move on. Great great song though. The playlist gets stronger and more refreshed with each new song, slowly evolving.
