Analysis: More nostalgia being eliminated here, and replaced by chill electronica. So let’s just say the Eliminator’s musical tastes evolved in the intervening 35 years.
It’s kind of hard to believe, but While You See a Chance is 41 years old. Yikes. This must have been one of the first songs that hit me hard in my pre-teen years. I mean Steve Winwood looks YOUNG, which is kind of amazing. So why does this song need to be eliminated, despite Winwood’s incredible voice? That synthesizer accompaniment, for one. And the synthesizer constantly in the background. Early 80s synthesizers were just TOO much. All synthesizer songs should be eliminated immediately! Actually, no I don’t think that. But whatever, they were excited about it. This song is TIRED.
The “chill” music genre is an Eliminator wheelhouse. I can listen to this kind of music all day long and be totally fine. And Roosevelt kind of hits the wheelhouse perfectly with this guitar ride song and the layered downtempo vocals. There isn’t a lot of complexity here. A few cool chord changes, and a very simply guitar accompaniment. So for me it is the whole chill approach of this song, and the whole easy ride of it all. This song can be listened to a LOT and really it should be by listeners of the Eliminator.
Forgive goes in at #825 (575 more listens). I don’t know if Forgive will survive for long in this project, but for now, it is definitely a song that needs to be heard more than 1981 Steve Winwood. While You See a Chance is Eliminated.
