The Eliminator 1000 – Great Songs to Listen To – A Little Honey (Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats) vs. Night Fever (BeeGees)

-

Next up in the Eliminator 1000 is the 2018 Americana hit by Denver very much rising singer Nathaniel Rateliff and his band The Night Sweats. It’s weighted random eliminatee is the 1977 epic megahit Night Fever by the BeeGees. Night Fever has 430 more listens on the 1-5000 “how many more times can I listen to this song?” scoring system of The Eliminator 1000, currently at #860 in the ranked Eliminator 1000.

Here are the two YouTubes:

The Elimination: This Elimination is a really good example of what this Eliminator 1000 project is all about. No one, and I mean no one, can debate the value of Night Fever as a long term musical cultural institution. Let’s face it. I mean really does any song better capture the late 1970s disco vibe? I still have one more Bee Gees song in this playlist (Stayin’ Alive), which DOES actually capture the late 1970s disco vibe better than this song. But Still. But it is time to move on. We have heard this song SO many times.

My soccer friends turned me on to Nathaniel Rateliff. All of them are far more knowledgable than me when it comes to music and I find myself liking quite a lot of their Americana rock preferences, which seem to dominate the “soccer friends” group scene despite a lot of varied individual music interests. That group coalesces around singers like Rateliff. And what’s not to like? I already have one other song by Rateliff in the Eliminator 1000. A Little Honey has a very old school maybe Detroit maybe Saint Louis bluesy feel to it, but with a very modern take on it. Rateliff was born in 1978, but to me he feels a LOT younger than that musically. There’s a lot of innovation going on there. And he really is a spectacular vocalist, even if this song doesn’t show all his chops. This is more just a really good solid song to listen to over and over again, which is, after all what the Eliminator 1000 is all about.

A Little Honey goes in at #633 (1,892 more listens). Night Fever, with all its disco vibes, is ELIMINATED!

The Eliminator 1000 is a music refresh project, based on the idea that a really long playlist of truly outstanding songs can still be continually improved for the future listen.
