Barry Manilow. OMG. I mean what a 1970s hero he was. Easy listening at its best. I learned to play this song on the piano as a young kid and always loved it. But my love for this song is 100% nostalgia, 0% current need. I mean I guess it’s an epic breakup song. But there have been lots of break up songs since then, and it is time to move on.
I don’t know exactly where I picked up on this song What You Know, but I have liked it for quite some time. The Eliminator loves this kind of poppy alternative sound. It’s interesting to watch a video from 2011 in 2021. It’s like they were starting to get to 2021, but were still stuck in the 1990s/2000s. The video is definitely aging fast. But the song with that guitar riff and repetition and the vocals – it’s a kind of perfect match. I’m surprised this song didn’t go further on the charts, reaching only #22 on the alternative charts. Maybe it’s too simple and repetitive. I don’t know and I don’t care why it didn’t do better.
What You Know goes in at #726 (1,031 more listens). Northern Ireland should be famous for more than just Derry Girls. Mandy, I’m sad to say, is Eliminated.
