The Elimination: Band Aid is of course an anachronism. All these well meaning superstars, culturally imperializing their way to charity! It’s a pretty classic example of liberal ignorance, if I can be political about it. And frankly it’s pretty embarrassing for anyone who participated in it, beyond the broadest terms. And it’s a pretty terrible song too, not at all deserving of being in this project. Of course it was well meaning and they did bring together a lot of famous people, but it is only the 2nd most famous 1980s charity song. Time for this song to go.
Una Vez Mas is a kind of guilty pleasure for me. This is not a great song really, just kind of fun easy listening pop and a fun music video. Modern Mexican alt-pop is fun, though, and it is a real sign that everyone from New York City has moved to Mexico City that this song and video exists. It feels so American, for me. But it is a VERY good time, this song. Highly danceable and just a good listen. I think it is Eliminator 1000 worthy in a very fun, international fusion kind of way.
Una Vez Mas goes in at #635 (1,762 more listens). Do They Know Its Christmas? is Eliminated!
